Today, this highly collaborative network bridges multi-generational veterans and newcomers through annual multi-day reunions and active social media engagement. They continue to travel to major custom car shows to collaborate on unique painted collectibles, notably gathering each year for the Chicago Brushmasters event to auction off their art and raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. ![Auction pieces leaning againt wall](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2026/09/Auction-Pieces-650x484.jpg "Auction-Pieces") ![person dipping paintbrush into cup of paint on top of a guitar being painted]( https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Pinstripe-guitar-2-1-422x276. jpg "person dipping paintbrush into cup of paint on top of a guitar being painted") ![Man pouring paint into containers with multiple bottles of paint](https://walldogpublicart. org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Andrew-and-Paint-422x276.jpg "Man pouring paint into containers with multiple bottles of paint") ![Man painting thin pinstripes](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2026/09/Aussie-Pinstriper-422x276.jpg "Aussie-Pinstriper") ## Our History ### Pinstripers International Network of Historic, Exotic, Artistic Design Stylists * [Origins & Community](https://walldogpublicart.org/pinheads/#origins) * [Style & Influence](https://walldogpublicart.org/pinheads/#style) * [The Group Today](https://walldogpublicart.org/pinheads/#today) #### 󠀁[Origins & Community](https://walldogpublicart.org/pinheads/#origins)󠁿 ![Pinstripers Group](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pinstripers- Group.jpg "Pinstripers Group") The Name “Pinhead” originally served as a playful acronym (Pinstripers International Network of Historic, Exotic, Artistic Design Stylists) coined during a 1990s custom car event. In the 1990s, the group became famous for “panel jams” at events like the massive Lead East hot rod party in New Jersey, where they roamed the grounds and painted anything that stood still. In the early 2000s, the group formed an online community called the “Pinhead Lounge”( created by Rich Hoare), which became a legendary hub for custom painters to share techniques, post art, and discuss traditional calligraphy or sign-painting techniques. #### 󠀁[Style & Influence](https://walldogpublicart.org/pinheads/#style)󠁿 ![Ed Roth with strange mouse drawing](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2026/09/Ed-Roth.jpg "Ed Roth") Pinstriping was pioneered in the mid-20th century by hot rod icons like [Von Dutch](https://www.eastwood.com/garage/history-pinstriping/) and [Big Daddy Ed Roth](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N670IksGRfU). The Pinheads carry on this “lowbrow art” legacy by using long-haired brushes to lay down perfectly freehand, symmetrical, and scroll-like lines. At car shows, Pinheads often host “panel jams” where they collaborate on single objects—such as vintage oil drums, gas tanks, and metal panels. Multiple artists take turns adding layers of striping, creating unique collectible items that are then auctioned off for charity. ![person dipping paintbrush into cup of paint on top of a guitar being painted]( https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Pinstripe-guitar-2.jpg " person dipping paintbrush into cup of paint on top of a guitar being painted") ![Man painting on a guitar](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/ 09/Pinstripe-guitar.jpg "Man painting on a guitar") #### 󠀁[The Group Today](https://walldogpublicart.org/pinheads/#today)󠁿 ![Photos of first WallDogs group](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2025/11/About_05-min.jpg "Photos of first WallDogs group") The group hosts long-running gatherings, such as the annual Pinhead Reunion. These multi-day events attract dozens of multi-generational artists who drive from all over the country to paint, share techniques, and socialize. The collective is highly collaborative, bridging the gap between veterans with 60- plus years in the trade and enthusiastic newcomers. You can keep up with their gatherings, member shout-outs, and panel jams on the [Pinheads Facebook Page](https://www.facebook.com/PinheadsReunion/). Pinheads gather once a year for a charity event called [Chicago Brushmasters](https://chicagobrushmasters.com/) with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House. * ![Ratfink Hubcap](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Ratfink- hubcap.jpg "Ratfink-hubcap") * ![Pinstriper kit](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Pinstriper- Kit.jpg "Pinstriper-Kit") * ![Pinstripe panels](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Pinstripe- panels.jpg "Pinstripe-panels") * ![blue car with pinstriping](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2026/09/Blue-car.jpg "Blue-car") * ![Collage of pinhead reunion](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2026/09/Pinhead-Reunion-1.jpg "Pinhead-Reunion") * ![Panel Jam artwork on a board](https://walldogpublicart.org/wp-content/uploads/ 2026/09/Panel-Jam.jpg "Panel-Jam")
